Finance Specialist
JOB PURPOSE: Assists with the County’s account receivables, credit card program, journal entrees, employee benefits, ACH and invoicing for services provided. Works on special projects as defined by the Finance Director. The position is a 40-hour-a-week position, with a full benefits package. Pay commensurate with qualifications and experience with a range of $27.42 -$32.76 per hour. KEY EXPECTED RESULTS:
- Oversees the maintenance of the County Credit Card program.
- Serves as backup to the weekly Accounts Payable and daily deposits.
- Updates retirement limits and IPP rates
- Journal entrees
- Reconciles employee benefits
- Handles county purchasing and purchase orders
- Provides training and assistance to all departments
- Maintains the account payable detail, ACH vendor payments, W-9 and certificates of insurance.
- Prepares monthly accounts receivable invoices and billing for County services, including tracking MDEA, Patrol, Jail, Parking Garage, False Alarm and other billable invoices.
- Aids in the research and distribution of unclaimed funds.
- Maintains documentation for and processes annual 1099 forms
- Assists the Finance Director in the compilation of material for the annual audit.
- Works with staff on compliance of local, state and federal grant funding and reporting.
- Serves as backup for payroll and other department tasks.
- Understands software applications such as MUNIS, Excel and other software used by the office.
- Complies with Federal, State and local legal requirements by following policies and procedures.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Ability to work productively & cooperatively with supervisors, employees and external contacts.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in accounting or business preferred plus four years of experience in similar job function.
- Public Sector accounting preferred, but not required.
- Four years of accounting experience in a governmental setting is preferred.
- Understanding of software used, or easily adapted to new software.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team member.
