Civil Deputy
To ensure the execution of civil processes and mandates of the courts. This position works under the general direction of the Captain and in accordance with Maine law and state, federal and local regulations and standards. The use of personal vehicle is required, with reimbursement for mileage. Frequent contact will be made with the public to include tenants, landlords, lawyers, etc. primarily in person. Flexibility to adjust working schedule on a regular basis to accommodate the public is necessary. This position has access to agency-related confidential information, such as highly sensitive personal information about citizens; the application of judgement, discretion and professional office protocols is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Maine driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preference will be given to post-secondary education.
- Preference given to previous law enforcement officer with emphasis on civil matters; associates degree in criminal justice and or training in real estate law and landlord/tenant law.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
3. Assists individuals who are seeking procedural information regarding civil matters within legal parameters.
4. Serves income and property executions and records and mails copies of such notices.
5. Serves eviction notices and contacts attorneys to finalize evictions.
6. Communicates, coordinates and facilitates with plaintiffs regarding all process assigned to them.
7. Records delivery of civil documents and returned proof of service.
8. Enters and maintains data and records into specialized files; completes necessary reports, as directed.
9. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
10. Supports the county’s safety and health policies by attending required safety training programs and reporting all accidents and suspected safety hazards to supervisor.

This position is 40 hours per week, with a full benefits package. This is a Union position, pay starts at $25.86 per hour.
