JOB PURPOSE: The purpose of the Regional Fire/EMS Coordinator is to ensure that fire/ems personnel are adequately trained and prepared for their duties within their respective departments. The position will develop, coordinate and administer training programs, overseeing drills and other fire/ems related applications. The Coordinator will serve as a collaborator between departments for regional efforts that may include joint purchasing and equipment testing, position attraction/retainage and multi-department governance. This position is 40 hours per week, with a full benefits package.  Pay is commensurate with experience, with a range of $32.67 - $37.12 per hour.   Please note, applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fire Instructor I with II preferred, Pro Board or Maine EMS Instructor Coordinator.
  • Strong preference for at least 10 years’ experience in public safety/emergency response. 
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional/administrative work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Required ICS 100, 200 and 700 at hire; ability to complete ICS 300 and ICS 400 within one year of hire, if not already completed.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 48 months prior to start date.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist the Fire Chiefs or their designees in Cumberland County with planning, coordinating, overseeing, scheduling, and presenting comprehensive training programs that meet local, state, and federal standards.
  2. Develop a training program that is as widely accessible to the County as possible.
  3. Continually evaluate effectiveness of training schedules and locations.
  4. Identify and coordinate submission of applications for Regional Training Grants.
  5. Set long term goals, and prepare regular reports for the Commissioners and participating communities.
  6. Schedule regular meetings with a regional steering committee to discuss plans and protocols and seek guidance on program goals.
  7. Create and maintain a repository of firefighter/EMT’s names. certifications, and training records in participation with willing communities.
  8. Monitor regional programs in other jurisdictions to regularly identify changing best practices.
  9. Seek other opportunities for voluntary regional collaboration in consultation with the steering committee - examples may include, but are not limited to, purchasing and testing/certifying equipment.
  10. Monitor performance of instructors to ensure course quality. Prepare and completes reports and training records.  
  11. Provide course instruction and support to internal and external courses when necessary. Develop, evaluate and revise training course material and curriculum.
  12. Analyze feedback from course participants to identify changes needed to improve curriculum.
  13. Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices including program planning, contract administration, budgeting, direction, coordination, evaluation, and data processing methods and techniques.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and make effective presentations of technical, complex, and sometimes sensitive information.
  15. Ability to work independently and to coordinate the efforts of individuals and organizations.
  16. Ability to set work priorities and to train, direct, motivate, and evaluate the effectiveness of programming. 
  17. Ability to apply judgment and discretion in resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
  18. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and external partners.
  19. Ability to facilitate meetings of a regular advisory/steering committee.
  20. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of all activities and operations.
  21. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
